Walnut Tree Farm, West End, Mattishall, was a modest cottage, which stood in the parish of Mattishall (TG043125), Norfolk, England for about 400 years until its demolition in the autumn of 2005. This blog contains a few photographs of the building during demolition. I understand that a proper survey has been undertaken, which will be published at a later date.

The wrap around brick gable has a small window, which was presumably to light a stair. The regularity of the brickwork suggests the 18th century, but the mullion window and scarf joint suggest an earlier date for the timber frame. In addition there appears to be a door frame in the bay next to the brick built section. Surely an odd position if the chimney were always in this position.
So what was the original plan? Was this cottage floored ? Where was the chimney, if it had one?
Sadly all trace of this house has gone and I think that it was demolished before any survey was undertaken.
